Working Tax Credit offers financial support for
families on low income. The amount paid depends on
income and the number of hours worked per week.
There is a childcare element to this which can offset
any registered childcare costs. You need to be over
16 years of age and work for more than 16 hours per
week.
Child Tax Credit offers additional support for families with children. Nine out of ten families will be eligible for some funding through this route. A higher rate is paid to families with babies under one year.
The Child Tax Credit and the Childcare Element of Working Tax Credit are paid directly to the main carer, in a similar way to Child Benefit. You can call 0845 300 3900 or visit www.hmrc.gov.uk for more information on Tax Credits.
