3D Mind Mapping and Talking Thinking Floor Books is the very beginning of our planning process.  We use real life objects (not toys) to stimulate discussion in order to find out the children’s initial level of knowledge of the chosen topic.  From this staff carry that learning and knowledge forward to extend the children’s learning experiences of real life for example Where does fruit come from?, How do bees make honey etc?

Fun Ways to Listen, our Pre School staff run this programme which was developed by Renfrewshire Council.  It helps children to learn to listen for and follow specific instructions whilst engaging in positive social behaviour.  This is offered in small groups of 8 children in order to allow the children the opportunity to remain focused on the given task.

Circle Time is led by Pre School staff and children.  Children engage in this within their key worker groups and is planned for in a responsive way either from interests, achievements or behaviours observed within the key worker group.  Examples of learning experiences vary from the introduction of a new child to the group, focus on a golden rule through to learning about being a good friend or sharing achievements.  Circle time demonstrates the importance of being part of a group, being able to express yourself and it also encourages positive social behaviour.

The music programme “Music Express” is carried forward by the Pre School staff.  The programme contains different sections which offer learning for the children about different styles of music, music vocabulary, the use of instruments and the use of voice.
