Duty of candour
Candour report April 2018-March 2019
All health and social care services in Scotland have a duty of candour. This is a legal requirement which means that when things go wrong and mistakes happen, the people affected understand what has happened, receive an apology and that organisations learn how to improve for the future.
An important part of this duty is that we provide an annual report about the duty of candour in our services. This short report describes how our care service has operated the duty of candour during 1ST April 2018 and 31st March 2019
How many incidents happened in the last year where duty of candour applies?
None, there were no incidents within the nursery that duty of candour applies.

When something has happened that triggers the duty of candour, staff have a duty to report this to Lauren Millar Nursery manager or Kelly Marie Smith Nursery depute who have responsibility for ensuring that the duty of candour procedure is followed.
Management record any incidents and will report to the care inspectorate. Anyone involved in the incident will be involved to review what has happened and any changes that need to be implemented.
All new staff learn about Duty of Candour at their induction. We know that serious mistakes can be distressing for staff as well as the people who use care and their families’ management are always available if support is needed.
